Housing Legal Assistance

If facing eviction, don’t hesitate to contact Legal Aid of Wyoming. Visit www.lawyoming.org or call 1-877-432-9955 for Legal AIn addition, they may be able to provide other legal assistance to eligible ERAP renters living in Wyoming, such as:

  • Lease agreement advice/negotiation
  • Eviction defense 
  • Disputes that could lead to eviction
  • Financial issues directly related to the home you rent (disputes about security deposits, damages claims, late fees, etc.)
  • Issues related to the safety of the home you rent
  • Financial matters affecting your ability to maintain or obtain housing, such as debt collection defense; federal benefits (SSI/SSDI); employment matters (FMLA, disability accommodations); and consumer protection actions to obtain tenant funds lost to scams.

Wyoming Community Development Authority 

WCDA IS THE STATE’S LEADING RESOURCE FOR HOUSING FINANCE.

Since 1975, the Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA) has made it easier for people across Wyoming to finance their first home.

We provide low-interest single-family mortgages and education to help customers buy and retain their homes. We also offer unique programs to aid in the sustainability of homeownership. Our down payment assistance program, homebuyer education and counseling, partnerships with developers, and work with nonprofit community organizations make WCDA the State’s leading resource for housing finance.

In addition to its single-family programs, WCDA currently administers several major affordable rental housing development programs: the Low-income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program, the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF) Program, and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program. These federal programs have funded more than 5,000 units of affordable rental housing across the state.

USDA Programs

USDA Rural Development supports rural homeownership through the following programs:

  • The Single Family Housing Direct Home Loan Program provides loans directly to families and individuals so they can buy or build homes in rural America.
  • Through its Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program, USDA partners with private lending institutions to help families and individuals buy homes in rural areas.
  • The Home Repair Loan and Grant Program provides loans and grants to help families and individuals repair and modernize homes, making them safer, healthier places to live.
  • The Mutual Self-Help Housing Grant Program provides grants to qualified organizations to help them carry out local self-help housing construction projects. Through this program, USDA works with organizations to provide a unique opportunity for families and individuals to lower the overall purchase price of a new home by investing “sweat equity” into its construction.

Wyoming Weatherization

  • The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps households save money on home heating costs by improving energy efficiency. Weatherizing homes often means adding more insulation and sealing leaks around doors and windows, and it always includes essential health and safety checks. An energy audit determines which weatherization measures will get the biggest bang for the weatherization dollars spent on each home. Weatherization can save 5-25 percent on home heating bills.

Summer Youth Food Programs

Provides free, nutritious meals and snacks to help children get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow, throughout the summer months when they are out of school to call Wyoming’s helpline, 2-1-1 or To find the summer food service nearest you,,, text FOOD or COMIDA to 877-877, and then type in your address.

Youth Backpack Weekend Food Programs

Food 4 Kids is modeled after the Nationwide BackPack Program, which provides food to needy kids on the weekends. Here in Cody, we are calling it Food 4 Kids. Among all three elementary schools, an average of almost 40% of the kids are on free or reduced lunch. On the weekends, many do not have enough to eat. In October 2014, First Presbyterian Church and Christ Episcopal Church began providing bags of food for children to take home on Fridays for their weekend meals. This food is easy for them to prepare or is ready to eat. Check with your Child’s school to determine if this program is offered in your community. Schools are also in need of volunteers to help fill bags each month.
