Exploring the Resources and Opportunities with Wyoming’s Community Support Organizations

Wyoming, known for its breathtaking landscapes and resilient communities, is also home to a rich network of organizations that foster economic growth and support low-income families. From grant opportunities to advocacy and networking, these entities play a crucial role in building a stronger, more inclusive Wyoming. Let’s dive into some key organizations and their offerings.

Yellowstone Country Assistance Network: A Beacon of Support

The Yellowstone Country Assistance Network is a pivotal resource, especially with its Community Services Block Grant program. This initiative, backed by Public Law 97-35 [Section 675(c) and (4)], is set to distribute crucial funding to Park County and Hot Spring County to empower community-based organizations. These funds are designated for services that assist low-income individuals and families, reinforcing the support structure within these communities.

Organizations interested in applying for this grant should mark their calendars and contact ycan on the first of May to apply by emailing ycanhelp@protonmail.com.

Wyoming Nonprofit Network: Strengthening the Sector

The Wyoming Nonprofit Network acts as the collective voice of the state’s charitable sector, delivering best practices, resources, and unwavering support to nonprofits. Located at 822 West 23rd Street, Unit A, Cheyenne, this network is instrumental in elevating the impact of nonprofits across Wyoming.

Wyoming Community Foundation: Connecting People and Causes

With over 30 years under its belt, the Wyoming Community Foundation has been a pivotal force in connecting donors with causes that matter, cumulatively granting nearly $100 million to various initiatives. Their efforts underscore the importance of philanthropy in building a better Wyoming.

Wyoming Economic Development Association (WEDA): Fueling Economic Growth

WEDA stands as a unique nonprofit 501(c)(6) professional association, fostering economic development across nearly 200 member organizations. From professional development scholarships to lobbying efforts, WEDA is a cornerstone for economic growth and job creation in Wyoming.

Wyoming State Chamber of Commerce: Advocating for Business

The Wyoming State Chamber of Commerce (WSCC) is a key advocate for the business community, working tirelessly at the state legislative level and supporting local Chambers in their endeavors to create a vibrant business environment.

Wyoming Business Alliance: A Unified Voice for Business

As Wyoming’s premier business advocate, the Wyoming Business Alliance ensures a unified and lasting voice for the business sector. Their work in facilitating a proactive business climate is essential for the state’s economic well-being.

Wyoming Business Council: Diversifying the Economy

Since 1998, the Wyoming Business Council has been at the forefront of tackling one of the state’s most persistent challenges: economic diversification. Their work is critical in paving the way for a more varied and resilient economic landscape.

Wyoming Main Street and More: Supporting Business and Community Development

The Wyoming Main Street program, along with the Business Ready Community Grant and Loan Program and other initiatives, are vital in supporting businesses seeking financing, workforce development, broadband development, and more.

These organizations and their programs illustrate the vibrant ecosystem of support available in Wyoming for individuals, families, and businesses. Through grants, advocacy, and a host of other resources, they are essential pillars in the ongoing effort to foster a thriving, inclusive Wyoming. Whether you’re part of a nonprofit, a business owner, or an individual looking to make a difference, there’s a wealth of opportunities to explore and contribute to the betterment of the Cowboy State.

Wyoming Community Development Authority

WCDA IS THE STATE’S LEADING RESOURCE FOR HOUSING FINANCE.

Since 1975, the Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA) has made it easier for people across Wyoming to finance their first home.

We provide low-interest single-family mortgages and education to help customers buy and retain their homes. We also offer unique programs to aid in the sustainability of homeownership. Our down payment assistance program, homebuyer education and counseling, partnerships with developers, and work with nonprofit community organizations make WCDA the State’s leading resource for housing finance.

In addition to its single-family programs, WCDA currently administers several major affordable rental housing development programs: the Low-income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program, the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF) Program, and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program. These federal programs have funded more than 5,000 units of affordable rental housing across the state.

WCDA’s Rental Directory provides the names, locations, and contact information for affordable housing developments in Wyoming. Use the Rental Directory Map to choose a location.

USDA Programs

USDA Rural Development supports rural homeownership through the following programs:

  • The Single Family Housing Direct Home Loan Program provides loans directly to families and individuals so they can buy or build homes in rural America.
  • Through its Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program, USDA partners with private lending institutions to help families and individuals buy homes in rural areas.
  • The Home Repair Loan and Grant Program provides loans and grants to help families and individuals repair and modernize homes, making them safer, healthier places to live.
  • The Mutual Self-Help Housing Grant Program provides grants to qualified organizations to help them carry out local self-help housing construction projects. Through this program, USDA works with organizations to provide a unique opportunity for families and individuals to lower the overall purchase price of a new home by investing “sweat equity” into its construction.

To learn more about USDA homeownership programs, please visit the Single-Family Housing program webpage or contact the Wyoming Rural Development State Office.

Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements, business development, housing, community facilities such as schools, public safety, and health care, and high-speed internet access in rural, Tribal, and high-poverty areas. For more information, visit www.rd.usda.gov/wy. To subscribe to USDA Rural Development updates, visit our GovDelivery subscriber page

The federal American Rescue Plan Act’s Homeowner Assistance Fund assists homeowners with mortgage and utility cost relief. We are in the early stages of gathering information for this new program. Please often visit, as program updates will be posted here.
