Housing Programs

Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Housing Choice Voucher Program, designed specifically for seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families, is a federal initiative that provides low-income housing options and rent assistance. Vouchers are available through your local public housing agency (PHA). This program empowers and encourages participants to select their own housing. The housing options do not have to be part of subsidized housing projects, but there are limits on unit size. Typically, participants must pay 30% of their monthly adjusted income towards their rent, with the voucher program covering the remainder. Eligibility: Applicant income and family size help the PHA determine eligibility. Citizenship and eligible immigration status also play a factor. The familyโ€™s income cannot exceed 50% of the median income for the county or metropolitan area where theyโ€™re applying to live. Of the vouchers, 75% must go to people whose income is at or less than 30% of their areaโ€™s median income. Application: Contact your local public housing agency.

Our Mission in Park & Hot Springs Counties

The Yellowstone Country Assistance Network (YCAN), through a Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), addresses poverty in Cody, Powell, Meeteetse, Ralston (Park County), and Thermopolis, East Thermopolis, Kirby (Hot Springs County). Inform custodial parents in single-parent families that participate in CSBG-funded programs, activities, or services about the availability of child support services; and 2. Refer eligible parents to the child support offices of state and local governments.

Volunteering at YCAN

Why Our Non-Profit Needs Volunteers

In every community’s heart are hidden stories of struggle, resilience, and the silent fight against poverty. Our non-profit organization has been at the forefront, striving to uplift those caught in this battle, aiming to change lives and bring hope where it’s needed most. However, the truth is we cannot do this alone. Our mission is driven by people for people, which is why volunteers will become the backbone of our efforts.

Volunteer Board Members

Our board is made up of dedicated volunteers with a variety of skills and backgrounds. Our tripartite structure requires:

  • Not fewer than one-third (1/3) of the members are persons chosen by democratic selection procedures adequate to assure that these members (A) are representative of low-income individuals and families in the neighborhood served; (B) reside in the neighborhood served; and (C) can participate actively in the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs under the CSBG.
  • One-third (1/3) of the board members are elected public officials or appointed representatives who were in office on the selection date.
  • The board includes at least one (1) person from the public, such as officials or members of business, industry, labor, faith-based organizations, law enforcement, education, etc.ย

Amplifying Impact Through Personal Touch

Volunteers bring a unique, personal touch to our programs. They do not just offer their time; they share their compassion, understanding, and a listening ear to those who often feel forgotten. This human connection is invaluable and usually profoundly impacts the individuals and families we assist, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Diversifying Skills and Talents

We seek volunteers from various backgrounds, each bringing their own skills and experiences. Whether itโ€˜s financial expertise to help with budgeting workshops or a knack for organization, volunteersโ€˜ diverse talents allow us to offer a wide range of services and programs that can meet the unique needs of those we serve.

Expanding Reach

With each volunteer that joins our cause, our capacity to reach and help more people expands. Volunteers enable us to extend our services to new areas, support more families, and tackle the multifaceted issues of poverty more efficiently. Their dedication allows us to undertake projects and initiatives that would otherwise be beyond our reach.

Raising Awareness

Volunteers are powerful advocates for our cause. Through their networks and communities, they help raise awareness about the challenges faced by those living in poverty and how our organization works to make a difference. This helps garner support and breaks down the stereotypes and misconceptions about poverty.

Fueling Our Mission with Passion

Perhaps most importantly, volunteers fuel our mission with their passion. Their willingness to help, to make a difference, and to contribute to a cause greater than themselves inspires everyone around them. This collective passion is what drives our organization forward, motivating us to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve.

In conclusion, volunteers are not just helping hands; they are the heart and soul of our organization. They bring hope, skills, and their invaluable time to help us combat poverty and make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. If you’ve ever considered volunteering, know that your contribution could light up someone’s world. Join us in our mission to change lives, one volunteer at a time.

Attention YCAN Volunteers! This is your chance to make a difference. Using this form, you can help us track your service and make sure we are making a real impact. Your dedicated work deserves recognition; this is one way we can show appreciation. So don’t hesitate to fill out this form, and let’s work together to create positive change!
